In November 2010, Inspiron Construction was awarded the contract to build Luna Park Site B. The Scream Zone is the second of three new amusement parks planned in Coney Island. The tremendous success during the construction of the Luna Park flagship project gave Zamperla International the confidence that the Inspiron team can provide the results needed to complete such a massive undertaking.
The project included installation of four major roller coasters, the first in Coney Island since the construction of the Cyclone in 1923. Logistical challenges included soil stability issues, a truncated timeline and weather related scheduling conflicts. Construction began late December 2010 and ran until April 2011. Mayor Bloomberg was in attendance for the opening ceremony on April 22, 2011.
